The sculpture VOORWAARTS is designed as a historical monument in commemoration of the siege of Den Bosch in 1629. The state troops that had to liberate the city were encamped at this site the Keerdijk in Den Dungen. A large sculpture of a stylized horseman rises up from the landscape.
The sculpture is inspired by two paintings from the Rijksmuseum which depict the leaders of the siege of Den Bosch. Astride their horses, they look out over the city in the distance.
Via a staircase, one can climb onto the back of the horse. Where the rider sits there is a small viewpoint which offers the same view of the city of Den Bosch that Johan Wolfert Brederode had almost 400 years ago.
