The art project Rustpunten (resting points) consists of a network of sculptures that are placed along cycling routes in the Netherlands. In beautiful places along these paths large figurative sculptures seem to have settled on a long bench. They rest or sleep in the peace and tranquility of the flat Dutch landscape. The more than life-size figurative sculptures depict contemporary people. Cut out of thick, solid steel, the figures seem to be drawn in the open space of the landscape.
Although the sculptures are almost entirely two dimensional, they suggest a spaciousness that is enhanced by the openness of the flat Dutch countryside, where your gaze often reaches to the horizon. Seated on the bench, one can nestle oneself against the reclining figure.
Placed on various prominent places in the Netherlands, the large sculptures form a network of special resting points where the passer-by can take a break from his efforts and enjoy the beautiful Dutch countryside.
